Building a Smarter Future for NHS Estates
Across the UK, Kendra is busy helping NHS teams maximise their estate’s energy efficiency and scale back on costs. Our extensive experience in the healthcare sector was recognised back in April 2022, when we became an awarded supplier on the NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) Framework. Today, we’re one of only fourteen building energy management systems (BEMS) specialists selected to support NHS organisations.
Over the years, we’ve worked with multiple NHS Trusts and facilities teams to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing healthcare estates: rising energy costs, ageing infrastructure, hitting sustainability goals and operational pressures.
From modernising legacy systems, improving operational visibility and helping NHS estates teams make better use of their energy, our focus is on creating healthcare environments that are smart, ecological and future-ready.
Supporting NHS estates across the UK
Every NHS site has its own challenges but the goal remains the same: creating buildings that are more efficient, cost-effective, reliable and comfortable for the people who use them.
For example, we transformed one of Surrey and Borders Partnership Trust’s highest energy-consuming sites (Gatton Place) into a smarter, more efficient building. We did this by upgrading the BEMS, introducing real-time analytics and moving to condition-based maintenance. On its first year, the project generated an annual saving of up to £34,500 and payback on their initial investment was less than eleven months.
With growing demands on resources, it’s essential for NHS estates to operate efficiently and reliably to reduce wastage and save on costs. Our work at Gatton Place freed up valuable resources that can now be invested in frontline healthcare services.
But the impact goes beyond lower energy bills. At Southmead Hospital in Bristol (part of North Bristol NHS Trust), we worked with the estates and IT teams to modernise the BEMS across the retained estate. By migrating the site to Trend IQVISION, upgrading network infrastructure and improving controller performance, we created a more secure, resilient and future-ready platform for estate management.
These are just two examples of the varied and widespread NHS projects we’ve delivered over the years to help the NHS hit ambitious energy management goals and support the long-term performance of healthcare estates.
Built on partnership
Our commitment to delivering long-term value for the NHS was recognised at the BCIA Awards 2026, where Kendra was named Best Service & Maintenance Provider for the work we delivered at a key NHS Trust site.
We are the only building controls company to receive this award four times. A testament to our expertise, strong partnerships and teamwork.
Looking ahead
Working alongside NHS estates teams is at the heart of what we do. Together, we’ve tackled complex challenges, improved building performance and helped create environments that support staff, patients and visitors every day.
We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together and look forward to supporting NHS organisations through the NHS SBS Framework for many years to come.
